Chaucer Tennis League

Guidance Notes for Team Captains

Team captains should be familiar with the league’s rules – these can be found here.

Here are some guidelines to help all teams/players get the most from these matches.

Matches should be played at the agreed date/time as arranged by your fixture secretary. Any changes must be notified to the league secretary and your club. Match dates can only be changed by agreement with the opposition captain, up to a maximum of 2 weeks before the scheduled date.

A captain should be appointed for each match and is responsible for making sure the team has 4 players, and a match scorecard. For ‘home’ matches, provide 8 new balls, and obtain access to refreshments.

Match details should be re-confirmed with the opposition captain about 1 week before the fixture. Get a match day phone number in case of inclement weather.

Try to arrive at least 15 minutes before start time to check courts, etc. and to greet your opposition. Advise your team to also arrive early to warm up/prepare to play.

Make sure that the match scorecard is a true record, and both captains sign it. The winning captain is then responsible for notifying the result, via the league’s website, chaucertennis.com This must be done no later than 2 days after the match date.

Where possible, home clubs should provide light refreshments for the visitors, particularly midweek games where a light lunch is appropriate. As a minimum, drinks should be offered at all matches.

The above are guidelines only, meant in the spirit of friendly competition that the Chaucer League has tried to encourage for over 60 years.
